Lambert won its eighth straight county swimming championship Saturday at the Cumming Aquatic Center as both the boys and girls teams topped runner-up South Forsyth.

This year’s seniors for Lambert had a big goal: become the fourth straight senior class at Lambert to win a county championship, an unprecedented feat.

But it was a junior who led the charge in Caroline Aikins, who won the 100 backstroke (0:58.86) and 200 IM (2:09.59) and contributed on Lambert’s first-place 200 free and 200 IM relay teams.

Out of all 24 events Saturday, Lambert won 15 and finished in the top 5 in every single event.

“It’s a team effort,” Lambert head coach Kerry Langley said. “I’m very proud how everyone on our team showed up today . . . if we didn’t have the depth we did South could’ve beaten our girls”

It could’ve been very much a possibility as the difference between the two was only 61 points.

South was led by senior Bayley Frierson. Frierson set two new county records in the 200- (1:53.99) and 500-freestyle (5:03.55). She also qualified for state in four categories (200 free, 500 free, 200 IM, 400 free relay).

Another record breaking performance came from North Forsyth senior Jack DalMolin. DalMolin had a perfect day as he set a new county record in all four of the events he participated in: the 200 IM relay, 200 IM, 100 breaststroke and 400 freestyle relay.

“It’s a true privilege to have coached him,” North head coach Kris Hunt said. “He’s a triple-A: attitude, ability and academics . . .With all due respect, I believe he’s the best swimmer in Forsyth County history ever, and I expect to see him standing on an Olympic block in the near future”
